Ivory Pen Care

Your New Pen is made from either Elephant or Mammoth Ivory.  Ivory is unique material. The never ending luster, beautiful grain pattern, color, and wear-ability make Ivory one of the most sought after natural materials known.

Ivory needs a stable environment. It cannot handle extremes of either humidity or temperature. Like wood, ivory is a cellular material. Its microscopic pores assume the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. Unlike wood, the cellular structure of ivory is very rigid. Rapid changes in the ambient conditions, especially humidity and temperature, are likely to cause ivory to crack because it cannot react to the change very quickly. Here are some ways of keeping your ivory pen in perfect condition.

Do Not leave your pen in an automobile. It will most surely crack if you do. It needs fairly moist air. The structure needs the humidity to maintain its pliability.

Do Not clean your ivory pen with anything other than a soft cloth dampened with water. Never use any sort of chemical or abrasive cleaner.

Do Not store your pen where the humidity is LOW. DRY is the enemy of Ivory.

Do keep your pen stored where the humidity is above 50%. Putting it in a drawer with a damp sponge or paper towel will do nicely. The little sponge in the plastic box we provide will do nicely if you keep it damp.

Do wax your pen often. Under "no use" conditions it should be waxed once each year with Renaissance Wax. A small jar is included with your purchase. Should you not have access to Renaissance Wax then use a good grade of floor wax. Under normal use wax your pen every month. This waxing seals the ivory and makes it less likely to be stressed by changing conditions. It also seals it from dirt and skin oils.

Do Enjoy the Beauty and Functionality of Your New Ivory Pen. With Proper Care, it will last, almost, Forever.
